The Artist's Mt. Geumgang Field Trips — From the Goseong Unification Observatory to the Inner Geumgang (1996–2007)

A field record showing that Shin Jang-sik's Mt. Geumgang paintings spring not from imagination but from the actual scenery (silgyeong) he stood before with his own eyes. In 1996, when the division of the peninsula made the mountain unreachable, he could only gaze toward it from the Goseong Unification Observatory; once travel to Mt. Geumgang opened, he visited Sejonbong (2004), Guryong Falls and Cheonhwadae (2005), Cheonhwadae in winter (2006), and the Inner Geumgang sites of Myogilsang and Sambulam (2007), facing their light and forms firsthand.
