Overview

A solo exhibition organized around the four seasons. Held from October 21 to 30, 2010, at Gallery INDECO. New works that recast the artist's central subject 〈Mt. Geumgang〉 across spring, summer, autumn, and winter were presented alongside the 〈Espace Van Gogh〉 and 〈La montagne Sainte-Victoire〉 works produced during the artist's 2008 residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris.

The catalog included a critical essay by aesthetician Kim Jin-a (Seoul National University), 〈Shin Jang-sik's 〈Mt. Geumgang〉 and Cézanne's 〈La montagne Sainte-Victoire〉〉. Kim notes the surface similarity — two artists repeatedly painting a specific mountain — yet argues that the two practices stand in opposition: Shin's 〈Mt. Geumgang〉 takes communication with "us" as its primary impulse, while Cézanne's 〈Sainte-Victoire〉 reaches toward an individual's sensory reality.
