This book is at once a critical biography and a catalogue raisonné, surveying the artistic world of the painter Shin Jang-sik, who began painting Mt. Geumgang in 1993.

The author Choi Tae-man—who studied at the same art college—sought to set down, with measured care, what he had come to understand of Shin's process and form through long years of observation and conversation.

The book follows a chronological structure but places its weight on analysis of the works themselves, designed so that the reader can view and read alongside the images.
