Overview
〈Korean Art Speaks — Engagement 50th Anniversary Exhibition〉 commemorated the fiftieth anniversary of the 'Engagement' artists' association, founded in 1961 by Kim Tae, Park Geun-ja, Ahn Jae-hu, Choi Kyung-han, Pil Ju-gwang, and Hwang Yong-yeop. Held at Gong Art Space from August 31 to September 20, 2011, the exhibition gathered about thirty-five artists, with support from Arts Council Korea and the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture, and was curated by Gong Art Space. After its founding show at the National Library Gallery in September 1961, 'Engagement' has held annual group exhibitions almost every year — with figures such as the late Chang Ucchin among the major artists of modern and contemporary Korean art who passed through its ranks. The fiftieth-anniversary exhibition reflected on the group's historical role while positioning itself as a turning point toward the next fifty years. Shin Jang-sik exhibited 〈Mt. Geumgang — Manmulsang〉 (2011-006).
